Turku Dockers Australian Rules Football Club welcomes new footy players of all nationalities. Australian football is an exciting, fast paced and high-scoring contact sport. It's great for fitness and it includes features from many different team sports. Give the sport a try with Finland's top team! Most people can't stop once they've tried it.
Aussies also needed!
We are always looking for Aussies familiar with the game to help out both on and off the field. No matter what your age or who you barrack for (well, preferably not Colingwood) you're very welcome to come and join in!
Australian football in Finland
Australian football is currently being played in Helsinki, Salo and Turku. The Finnish national team Finland Icebreakers has also participated in many international tournaments, including the EU Cup and the International Cup in Australia.
Turku's very own aussie rules team, The Dockers, started in late 2008, when Grant Siermans and Craig Primmer, who had previously played in the Finland Icebreakers, decided to found a team in Turku. The team got off to a flying start, and in August 2009, Turku Dockers won the first ever grand final in the Finland AFL.
Training
Turku Dockers train once a week during the winter, and twice a week during the summer season. Most of the Finnish national league games are played during the summer months, so the sport is perfect for anyone who wants to play competitive sports in the summertime.
Turku Dockers started outdoor training on March15th. Curently we train Thursdays 19:00 - 20:00 at the 'parkki' Field (Tuureporinkatu 2) and a bit later in May we'll start training also on Saturdays on the Lieto central field (Liedon keskusurheilukenttä, Opintie) 14:00-16:00. Our 2010 game dates and locations can be found on the 'ottelut' page.
